it is late September and Napa Valley is in full harvest swing. After 20 years of the wine business, I never tire of this time of the year; the early morning hours racing to vineyards before the dawn.
Last week, bleary-eyed and jittering with coffee, I navigated the hour drive to the northern reaches of Napa Valley to join a film crew on a pre-dawn scout, then sunrise shoot. Watching the sunrise and spill onto the leaves of vines reminds me of the work they have ahead.
Crews out picking at first light, and working at lightning speed, efficiency and accuracy a must. And before the midday sun has begun to warm the soils, the rows are harvested, trucks loaded, pickers resting and the grapes on their way to the winery for processing.
